Peacekeepers final. by DESTRAUDO Peacekeepers final. by DESTRAUDO
Added some more texture detail and reworked a few sections. I consider this one done and done.

There was a feeling i had in mind when doing this. I has seen a bunch of pictures of american troops interacting with kids in iraq. And while the kids were always friendly you would occasionally see adults looking at the interaction with worry or suspicion. I thought it would be interesting to do something which would suggest a possible worry or suspicion on the part of the viewer about the aliens intention, simply by them being an alien.

It is good to see bug faced aliens not being colossal assholes or mindless killers for once.

freaky but i think contrary to human nature being 'different' as an alien it would probably mean that they would be feared too much to get near lets remember the human process to difference 1fear 2hatred 3violence the concept is interesting and children would be the best to take difference better but more often then not the ladder would probably not be so likely once again do nice piece and indeed a curious reaction indeed

Im really interested in the story behind this! is the earth being invaded by another race and the ant aliens are protecting us from the devastation that is to come? or are they invading us but showing compassion as well, this picture really makes you think about a lot of things, and that is why its a great piece.

In theory they invaded nothing. They really are peacekeepers, and in theory would have intervened with force in a large possibly world war to stop us wiping ourselves out.

Now that sounds interesting an alien race saving us from our own extinction! i like the concept its very interesting and it really pops up to me. Thanks for drawing inspiring work like this, also love the coloring it conveys the mood it was trying to achieve.

This is superb. You have done well to show the reflectivity and play of light on the heads and mouthparts of the aliens -- or, perhaps more politically correct, extraterrestrials or "foreign sophonts." I have also noticed that it could be argued the peacekeeper offering the food, itself looks tentative.

I can sleep safely at night knowing alien space-bug-marines are keep the streets safe ^^

But yeah, interesting metaphor for marines in Iraq, I do imagine this is how some Iraqi kids feel; the modern day marine's gear is pretty alien and the war confusing to an impoverished child.

its amazing that you can force the viewer to feel similar emotions that those viewing kids going up to soldiers in iraq feel. Also its a perfect way tto make us feel that way and a unique way of putting it that way in an image :D great job this is wonderful!

Shockingly true.

I've talked to several soldiers who had similar experiences in Iraq.
The stories were heartwarming in themselves, and even with the odd twist of the story, you seem to have succeeded in capture that same aspect in this picture.

"Profound" is the word I'm thinking while looking at this. I've seen several of the photos you speak of, and it's interesting to ponder on just what those adults are thinking. It's odd, because when I first saw this, I felt no ill action from the soldier offering chocolate to the children. Maybe it's because I've come further than the prejudices that hold much of humanity back? Or am I like the children, and simply see a treat offered me, with no knowledge as to whether I am in danger?

Curious.

But it's an excellent piece, both in concept and in execution. The texture is working very well, and your rendering style of the three children and the soldier are original, yet instantly readable. Congratulations on the Daily Deviation! Well earned. :)

That's the trick: put aliens in the place of the human invaders (they're differente in some ways). That's what War Of The Worlds is all about (it's one of my favourite book). Excellent work!

Very deep, and I can really appreciate the way you wanted this viewed. Honestly, I also had similar feelings. Shows a lot about the stereotypes and fear of the unknown we have. I really like it, and thank you for creating this work. I also really love the texture!

Its sad really... often such interacions are taken as a negative thing in the viewers mind... but then, who knows the intentions but the alien... but then again, he does look pretty hungry. Just looking at the alien really gives you a feeling of bad intentions, even if he is just trying to be helpful... but with a ruinous city background, I'm really doubting good intentions
